A culinary romp around Paris

For reasons already lost in time, we only spent three days in Paris, but took plenty of photos. We stayed with Sagita, a college friend of Masha’s and her family.

We totally lucked out because in addition to getting a very warm welcome and having great company, theirs is the most Parisian of apartments.

We tried to make the most of our short stay with the tourist mainstays, but most of all, we ate!

Every day, we started off with that most French of breakfasts, croissants, pan au chocolate, and freshly bought baguettes with crystallized salt butter (7 out of 5).  And add to that a sampling of local cheeses.

Of course we also made a pilgrimage to the creator of the most sublime of all deserts..

Baba au rhum - or as we knew it in the motherland, rumbaba!! Turns out it was created in the early 18th century by King Louis XV's pastry chef Nicolas Stohrer (aka founder of Stohrer) (5/5 for perfect flavor balance).

We gorged on crepes at a super authentic off-the-beaten-street creperie called La Blanche Hermine. You know it’s authentic when there is no English translation or English speakers, and two little french old ladies make your crepes and refuse to understand the Google Translate translation of “Is 4 crepes too much food?” (4/5 for simple and tasty)

Enjoyed the local seafood and landfood at Bistrot Victoires (4/5 for an inexpensive tasty meal)

A rhubarb drink that actually carries it’s essence and fragrance!

And sampled fine beverages

And ate delicious tartars at Petite Fleur (4.5/5 for creative food)..

But overall, we left much to be tried - we shall do better next time!
