Soportujar - A Witchy Place
Soportujar is about an hour’s drive from Granada along a dramatic and twisty mountain road. The centuries-old village has a rich history of witchcraft and mystic legends, and has more recently decided to permanently dedicate itself to a kind of folk pre-Hershey’s Halloween, making for quite a tourist attraction.
Visiting the Moorish Grandeur of Alhambra
The Alhambra is a sprawling royal complex built by the Nasrid dynasty -- the last Islamic kingdom in Spain -- in Granada. The palace is remarkable for its incredibly elaborate filigree decorating all possible surfaces, as well as the gorgeous courtyards and landscaping. The fountains, the orange blossoms, the little streets filled with souvenirs, the twisty paths, the daily churros and chocolate... and the magic of the people filling the streets. This little place had us wishing so much that we could stay just one extra day.
